A dinosaur board book for children ages 3–8

Children do not all meet books in the same way. Some want to hold every page themselves; some listen closely; others are beginning to read the simplest lines aloud. A good book for ages 3–8 gives each of them a way into the story.

For toddlers and preschool children

Thick board pages are easier for small hands to turn and more forgiving than ordinary paper. Large, simple sentences make the story comfortable to share with an adult, while colorful dinosaur scenes give a child something new to notice on another reading.

That is why we chose to make The Dinosaur World as a board book. We wanted it to feel comfortable in small hands and sturdy enough to be turned with enthusiasm, dropped on the floor, gathered up again—and read once more the next night. Its thick pages are also gentler for little fingers and less likely to cause the accidental paper cuts that can sometimes happen with thin pages in a regular book.

For beginning readers

Short passages and a clear sequence help young readers follow what happens without facing a wall of text. Friendship, play, change and growing up are familiar ideas, even when the characters live in an imaginative dinosaur world.

For older children in the age range

The unusual part is the author: Nicole wrote the story when she was seven. Children who are beginning to invent stories of their own can see that their ideas and words matter, too.

A note about age recommendations: ages 3–8 is a practical guide, not a rule. A child’s interests, reading experience and preference for shared or independent reading matter more than a birthday alone.
